Burak Gezen / Çanakkale, Aug 4 (DHA) – A modern removal center at 400 people capacity will be constructed in Ayvacık district of Aegean Çanakkale province.

Ayvacık district in Çanakkale is renowned as a transition passage for migrants seeking to cross mostly into European countries illegally. Interior Ministry Directorate General of Migration Management decided to build a larger removal center, in addition to the existing one with 80 people capacity.

The construction of the center, having tendered for 6.7 million liras, is expected to be completed by September 2016. The modern facility will be build upon a 8,315 m2 area, in two blocks and two floors. The project seeks to offer illegal foreigner migrants more humanitarian conditions during the process of removal.

In recent years, the Aegean region has become one of the most favored routes for illegals seeking to cross in to the EU.
