After killing him, the gunmen took Shamwami's wallet, which contained his identification papers, along with his camera, eyewitnesses said.GOMA, D.R.C – A Congolese journalist was killed by unidentified people in the eastern city of Goma, eyewitnesses said.They said unidentified people had stormed into a commercial center in the city late on Friday and shot and killed journalist Robert Shamwami, who was inside at the time.Shamwami used to work for the National Congolese Radio and Television.After killing him, the gunmen took Shamwami's wallet, which contained his identification papers, along with his camera, the eyewitnesses said.Tuver Wundi, the representative of the local non-profit Journalists in Danger, expressed sorrow over the killing of the journalist."We denounce this assassination and call for opening investigation into it so that we can reach the facts," Wundi said. Shamwami survived an attempt on his life a year ago when his home was attacked.A few months ago, a photojournalist lost one of his two legs when unidentified people shot at him.Around ten Congolese journalists were killed during the past 16 years, according to Journalists in Danger.In 2014, the Democratic Republic of Congo came in position no. 156, out of 180 countries, in the Press Freedom Index, which is announced every year by the international organization Reporters Without Borders.
